At the heart of Home-Start is the belief that parents play the key role in giving their children the best start in life - and that other parents have the experience and understanding to support those families that need help. Home-Start South Warwickshire home visiting volunteers come from many different backgrounds and vary in age, but all are either parents or have parenting experience.
Home-Start volunteers visit families at home each week, supporting parents in situations as diverse as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, mental or physical illness or disability; some are just finding parenting a real struggle. They provide non-judgemental, practical and emotional support and help build the family’s confidence and ability to cope.
Volunteers support families by visiting them at home for 2-3 hours per week. They offer both emotional and practical support which helps parents cope with everyday situations.
All volunteers undertake a free 24 hour training course to prepare them for their new role. Once trained a volunteer is matched to a family in need and will receive 1:1 and group supervision, and have access to further training and social events. Volunteers received reimbursement for out of pocket expenses.
We are looking for people who have the time and commitment to support a family through a difficult period in their lives.
“Volunteering with Home-Start helps me use all my parenting,
life skills and experience to really help a family having a difficult time.
It may be emotional support or practical support, but seeing the difference you can make in often very small ways is really rewarding”
**Vivien, Home-Start South Warwickshire Volunteer**
